SAPS audit report on Medicare24 contract to be finalised next week

JOHANNESBURG -  The SAPS internal audit report on the corrupt tender awarded to Medicare24 Tshwane District is expected to be finalised by next week.

"There is an internal audit committee that has been investigating the awarding on this particular tender. The final internal audit report is being concluded and will be finalised by next week," said Athlenda Mathe, national spokesperson for the SAPS.

Meanwhile, eNCA has learned that four employees from Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala's Medicare24 Tshwane District have turned state witnesses in the corruption case against the company.

Former CEO Mike Van Wyk has not been arrested and may be one of the individuals giving statements to the authorities.

The 16 accused in the Medicare24 tender scandal so far include 12 police officers, Matlala and one of the company's directors.

Four of the police officers charged with aiding Matlala to score a tender with the police worth more than R350-million have also agreed to testify for the state.

The possibility of more individuals turning state witnesses has not been ruled out
