JOHANNESBURG - 76 hospitals have been exempted from rolling blackouts and the Health Department's spending a lot on generators according to spokesperson Foster Mohale.

Mohale said, ''Eskom had to target the number of hospitals that we wanted to exempt as you remember that our priority least consisted of 213 hospitals across the country and out of that number we've managed to exempt 76  hospitals."

"What we can confirm is that we've spent a lot on generators, fuel, and maintenance more than planned in the past financial year."

"As much as we've spent the money we are happy that no lives have been lost during load shedding.''
