JOHANNESBURG - The school year is well under way, but for thousands of pupils in Gauteng the bell still has not rung.
The parents of about 2,700 pupils continue to scramble for school placements.

The provincial Education Department says late applications are compounding the crisis, but insists all Grade 1 pupils will be placed by the end of next week.
