CAPE TOWN - The Institute for Justice and Reconciliation has emphasised the need for crime-busting institutions to operate effectively in the pursuit of law and order.
The National Prosecuting Authority, the Special Investigating Unit and the Hawks gave Parliament’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts progress reports yesterday on cases being investigated.
Leaders of the entities outlined the problems they face, including staff shortages and funding constraints.

The NPA says it has bolstered its performance, particularly over the past four years.
Legal experts have underscored that proper funding of these institutions is vital for them to carry out their mandates.
