Senzo Meyiwa murder trial postponed to Tuesday

Senzo trial postponed to Tuesday

JOHANNESBURG - An audio recording played in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial reveals accused 2 Bongani Ntanzi complained his then lawyer Ntokozo Mjiyakho wanted him to confess to the soccer star’s murder and that’s why he fired him.

This emerged at the trial within a trial looking at the admissibility of confessions made by  Ntanzi and his co-accused, Muzi Sibiya.

Previously the court heard  Mjiyakho was also present during Ntanzi's second confession before magistrate Vivienne Cronje. A claim Ntanzi denies.

The audio recordings reveal Mjiyakho also represented Ntanzi during his first two appearances at the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court.

This despite claims by Ntanzi that he neither knew Mjiyakho nor instructed him.

It now appears Mjiyakho only withdrew his representation on 5 March 2021, 8 months after Ntanzi made his confessions.

The recordings also reveal two accused complained of beatings while in custody.

The case has been postponed to Tuesday for the written transcript to be handed to the  defence.
