DURBAN - Residentsin Newlands East, Durban, are still seeking compensation for damages caused by the April 2022 floods.
The flooding resulted in major damage to houses and the sewerage system.
According to the ward councillor, attempts to prompt the eThekwini Municipality to take action, such as building retaining walls to mitigate further land erosion, have been unsuccessful.
Residents say sewage now runs into their yards, as there is no infrastructure to direct it to the appropriate disposal sites.

Some residents have been compelled to spend their own money to address the issue, which includes constructing their infrastructure.
And to add to their problems, recent heavy rain has caused their homes to collapse once more, with insurance no longer willing to pay out.
The Democratic Alliance says this is another instance of the metro’s disregard for residents, and is heading to court.
The Ethekwini municipality has not yet replied to eNCA’s inquiries, including why they continue to charge residents for services and infrastructure, such as active meters, that they no longer have.
As residents of eThekwini Municipality seek answers and the next course of action, they're forced to endure this disturbing sight along with the repulsive odour.
