Sibiya's bail hearing stalls

JOHANNESBURG - The state's case against suspended Deputy National Commission Shadrack Sibiya has tightened with a wave of digital evidence.

The 16-year-old complainant's father, Mr M, who worked as Sibiya's bodyguard, has revealed that he has almost 300 recordings of the disgraced top cop.

He said he had been keeping evidence records of Sibiya’s criminal activities

The court heard that Mr M also preserved photo evidence, vehicle-camera footage and vehicle-tracking information.

Sibiya’s wife, Sizakele Dlamini, filed an affidavit in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court claiming Mr M threatened her and said he would release documents about Sibiya to the police.

Mr M claimed that he had been documenting Sibiya’s movements and possessed sensitive information regarding certain individuals’ disappearances, of which Sibiya was allegedly aware of.

Meanwhile, prosecutors have shut down Sibiya's claim of consensual sex with an 18-year-old because the teenager wasn't sober at the time.

The state has welcomed the defence's evidence placed on record.

The material includes WhatsApp messages and audio recordings that the state says implicate the top cop.

The case has been postponed to Tuesday, a day after Sibiya's expected SAPS disciplinary hearing.

For now, he remains in custody.
