Slain e-hailing driver laid to rest

ULUNDI - Hundreds of mourners honoured slain e-hailing driver Mthokozisi Mvelase at a funeral service in Ulundi, KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday.

Leaders of the e-hailing and taxi industries also set aside their differences to pay their respects.

Describing him as a kind, loving, peaceful man who embodied his name by always bringing joy to his family, Mvelase's siblings said he did not deserve his violent demise.

The family was also vocal in their frustration at not getting any update on the investigation into his murder.

"We have seen no tangible action from the police regarding this case. Therefore we are calling on the Gauteng Transport MEC to suspend Soweto taxi operations until the case is resolved," said his uncle, Doctor Khuzwayo.

Mvelase was shot and set on fire inside his car outside Maponya Mall in Soweto, on the 13th of August.

He had been an e-hailing driver for just three days.

Taxi operators are suspected of being behind the attack.
