Slain officer Mandla Khuzwayo remembered as a loving uncle

KWAMASHU - Slain officer Mandla Khuzwayo is being remembered as a loving, kind, and extraordinary uncle.

That's how his nieces described him during his funeral in KwaMashu, KZN.

Khuzwayo died in hospital this week from gunshot wounds sustained in an attack last month.

"Umalume was the best uncle any kid could ever ask for. He loved all of his nieces and nephews to the fullest. He was very passionate and patient with all of us. He would rarely be stern and straight. I can assure you all that most of our memories and time spent with Umalume Manja were filled with joy and laughter.

"We'd even call him 'umalume we country'  because he wasn't just an uncle to us, the children of his family, but to all the children in the neighbourhood and all the children he met. I want to thank you for your support.

"To thank you for keeping the promise that you made to always take care of me. You became more than just my uncle.

"You were and still are the dad that I never had. I will forever cherish the moments and the memories that we've shared together. I will hold on to our deep conversations and the life lessons you have instilled in me. Thank you for your love, your guidance and strength and everything you did for me."
