Slain Soweto taxi boss a visionary - National Taxi Alliance

SOWETO – “A visionary leader who had charisma.

These are the words National Taxi Alliance (NTA) spokesperson Theo Malele used to describe slain taxi boss Thami Moyo.

The 58-year-old was gunned down on the Soweto Highway last week on his way to a meeting.

Family, colleagues, and friends held a memorial service for him in Soweto on Thursday.

Speaking to eNCA,  Malele said Moyo's impact will not be forgotten.

“We have lost a colossus, a giant, a visionary leader who had charisma — someone who stopped at nothing to ensure peace in the taxi industry. As much as he is gone, he will be remembered,” he said.

Moyo’s murder came just days after another taxi boss was killed, sparking fears of retaliation.

Malele called for calm, urging taxi operators to allow the law to take its course.

According to Malele, Moyo’s killer remains unknown, but he believes justice will be served.

“I have faith. The location where the incident happened has cameras that should provide footage, and that gives hope that justice will prevail,” he added.

Moyo will be laid to rest on Saturday.
