JOHANNESBURG - Ubuntunomics director Siya Biniza says the appointment of an electricity minister will lead to finger-pointing if the energy crisis is not resolved.
President Cyril Ramaphosa announced he will be appointing a minister of electricity in the presidency.
The new minister will be expected to focus on keeping the lights on.

"The decision to appoint the minister of electricity, it sounds like a joke, it really doesn't give one confidence that there is going to be an improvement in the current economic and energy crisis that we are facing," Biniza said.
The president on Thursday declared a state of disaster to deal with the country's worsening electricity crisis.
Ramaphosa said the state of disaster is effective immediately.
