JOHANNESBURG - Alleged hitman Matipandile Sotheni has been accused of possessing cellphones while in custody.
The state said three cellphones were found with conversations on the devices allegedly linking him to the assassination of Madlanga Commission "Witness D", Marius van der Merwe.
Sotheni, a former SAPS Special Task Force member, faces 16 charges, including murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder and theft.
He appeared at the Brakpan Magistrate's Court.
