The number of outstanding appeals dropped from over 79,000 cases at the end of 2024 to 70,976 by the end of 2025.

It was built up over more than two decades, with some cases dating back to 2008.

Home Affairs said the progress is one of the biggest improvements in the asylum appeals system in recent years.
