PIETERMARITZBURG - The Government of Provincial Unity in KwaZulu-Natal is on shaky ground.
This after a failed motion of no confidence against Premier Thami Ntuli.

The House turned chaotic when the Speaker decided to allow an open vote.
The Speaker of the provincial legislature, Nontembeko Boyce explained her decision, "I opted for the open ballot mostly because in the legislature we have a variety of options."
"We can choose the open ballot individually, open ballot when we vote according to parties, and secret ballot where we vote secretly."
Boyce said, "most of the time we have been voting on open ballot, voting according to parties, and it has not been an issue. We opted today to use one because there is nothing wrong with it, it's one of the available options."
She asserted that the same people who claimed to be threatened were debating in support of the motion.
"It made no real sense to me," she said.
Boyce stated she would be studying the footage of the scuffle in the legislature with legal counsel to decide if further action should be brought against MPLs after the chaotic scenes.
The speaker said nothing precludes the members' rights to table another motion of no-confidence.
"What I stand directly opposed to is; members of the house and citizens who do not want others to exercise their democratic rights," she said.
