Starmer takes credit for migration drop

JOHANNESBURG - Net migration to the United Kingdom (UK) fell sharply last year.

Legal migration added just 171,000 people to the UK population last year, the lowest number in over a decade.

The numbers follow stricter rules on foreign workers entering the UK that were largely put in place by the previous government.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the numbers show progress by his government.

Starmer faces growing political pressure after poor local and regional election results earlier this month.
