Steenhuisen: Kusile a monument of corruption

The country has been subjected to the worst rolling blackouts in the past three months, and Kusile is one of the problematic plants.

DELMAS - The DA was planning to find out what’s really going on at Kusile power station.

The country has been subjected to the worst rolling blackouts in the past three months, and Kusile is one of the problematic plants.

Party leader John Steenhuisen says prior arrangements were made with Eskom and all involved.

But the Public Enterprises Department says the visit was unplanned.

Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan has dismissed the visit as' nothing but grandstanding'.

He says the visit was unannounced, and if proper arrangements are made, the DA will be allowed in.

The DA says it will not back down.

“This is a monument, it’s a state of ineptitude and corruption, and that’s what people, certainly from the minister’s office don’t want us to see," Steenhuisen said.

"I will make sure that I get to the bottom of this so that at least someone can be open and transparent to the people of South Africa."
