KIMBERLEY - Police in the Northern Cape have urged stokvel members to exercise extra caution as festive season payouts approach.
Officials warned that during this time, large cash withdrawals could make stokvel members targets for robberies and theft.
“The SAPS is therefore appealing to stokvel members and organisers to take proactive measures to safeguard their savings and personal safety,” police said in a statement on Friday.
Police said they would continue to conduct crime prevention and high visibility operations across the province during the festive season.
However, the community has been urged to also cooperate to curb crime.
“Stokvel members are therefore encouraged to maintain confidentiality regarding their financial arrangements and to remain vigilant throughout the payout period.
