Substation fire | Large parts of Tshwane without power

Tshwane Mayor Cilliers Brink says the blaze has been contained and an update will be provided later.

An explosion at a substation near Benoni has resulted in parts of Ekurhuleni being without power. The fire soon caused several others to catch alight in he area. Water supply was also temporarily disrupted.

TSHWANE - Large parts of Tshwane are without power after a fire at the Koedoespoort substation this afternoon.

Tshwane Mayor Cilliers Brink says the blaze has been contained and an update will be provided later.

No word yet about how long the outage will last.

Brink said, "I was informed that a fire had broken out. This is the cause of the power outage affecting several areas."

"Emergency services were on the scene. Damage is largely contained. WE can only assess extent once fire is out. As a country, we are here."

"On site, assessing damage and making sure work is done to restore power even though we can't give a credible timeline at this point.
