BRAKPAN - Police have arrested a suspect in the murder of Madlanga Commission witness, Marius van der Merwe.
Van der Merwe testified as Witness D in November last year and was gunned down outside his home in Brakpan a month later.
In his testimony, he accused suspended EMPD deputy chief Julius Mkhwanazi of forcing him to dump a body at a dam in 2022.
The suspect was arrested in Johannesburg on Saturday and will appear in the Brakpan Magistrate's Court on Monday.
The vehicle believed to have been used on the day that Witness D was murdered has also been seized.
National Commissioner of the South African Police Service, General Fannie Masemola, applauded the team for moving with speed in ensuring a breakthrough in this case.
