JOHANNESBURG - Fannie Masemola is South Africa’s sixth national police commissioner since 1995.
But as of Thursday, President Cyril Ramaphosa placed Masemola on precautionary suspension.
The move follows Masemola being charged with violations of the Public Finance Management Act.

Puleng Dimpane has been appointed Acting National Commissioner. Dimpane has been the Chief Financial Officer of the SAPS since 2018.
The National Commissioner position has proven to be a tricky one.
All but one of Masemola's predecessors were removed unceremoniously.
