CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Education says about 300,000 pupils missed school due to the taxi strike on Friday.
Even parents who do not rely on taxis kept children at home due to safety concerns. The strike is expected to continue.
Western Cape Education spokesperson Bronagh Hammond says they have contingency plans to ensure that students donât fall behind with their learning during the strike.
"Our head of department will be writing to schools and draft letters asking the schools to assist in terms of buddy systems where parents of other learners from other communities if it is a school that has community learners to try and assist,' she said.
