Ten dead, thousand displaced - Storm leaves trails of disruption in WC

WESTERN CAPE - The Western Cape Provincial Government said emergency response and recovery operations remain at a critical stage. 

This is despite improved weather conditions across the province, following recent severe storms that have left trails of disruption. 

According to Western Cape MEC for Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning, Anton Bredell, to date, the death toll from the devastating floods has claimed the lives of 10 people, while 2,000 residents have been displaced in the Cape Winelands.

He conveyed condolences to the deceased families assuring them that disaster management teams remain active in several districts more especially Cape Winelands. 

At the same time, humanitarian organisations, NGOs, and community groups are also assisting affected residents with food, blankets, and hygiene supplies.

In the meantime, Eskom said electricity restoration is underway in the affected town across the province 

" Customers are reminded that these conditions continue to present significant challenges, particularly in areas where infrastructure remains inaccessible due to flooding and unsafe terrain," the utility said.
