The escape of rapist and murderer Thabo Bester has raised the possibility of corruption within Correctional Services departments and facilities.
JOHANNESBURG - The escape of rapist and murderer Thabo Bester is like something from a Hollywood blockbuster.
His re-emergence, after allegedly dying in a prison cell fire last year, has raised the possibility of corruption within Correctional Services departments and facilities.
According to Popcru spokesperson Richard Mamabolo, this move could only have been pulled off with the help of senior Correctional Services officials.
Mamabolo says the reopening of investigations is evidence that Correctional Services has not been doing its job this entire time.

"We are quite shocked by the incidents. The circumstances leading to the escape of Mr Bester are quite surprising, especially considering that since then there has been an internal investigation," Mamabolo said.
"It's quite clear that it could not have been one person who was responsible or orchestrated this whole thing.
"It could not have been junior officials, it was definitely senior officials."
