CAPE TOWN - ActionSA’s Dereleen James has welcomed the firing of Sisisi Tolashe as Minister of Social Development further describing it as a victory for accountability.
The Presidency announced the axing of the minister in a statement on Thursday.
Reacting to the news, James deemed the outcome as a vindication of the parties efforts to expose corruption within government.
Speaking to eNCA in Cape Town, on the sidelines as President Cyril Ramaphosa prepared to answer questions for oral reply in the National Assembly said she has all the reasons to smile.
“It's now time for them to pay back the money. All those cooked CVs, all those fraudulent appointments, they need to pay back the money. It is very important that we have an ethical leader now heading up this department for the most vulnerable.”
ActionSA alongside the Democratic Alliance filed criminal charges against Tolashe for misleading Parliament.
This as Tolashe has been accused of misleading Parliament regarding two luxury vehicles allegedly donated to the ANC Women’s League, but which ended up in her family's possession.
Tolashe was also criticised over the irregular appointments of key staff.
Dereleen stood firm saying the party maintains a zero-tolerance approach to corruption.
“They need to know the kind of leadership that gets sent to serve South Africans,” she said.
