JOHANNESBURG - Transnet Freight Rail says it is losing about R55m per day on derailments similar to the one which happened near Ulundi this week.
It says the latest coal line derailment which happened on Tuesday followed threats from groupings demanding business opportunities.
Sixty wagons were derailed, with a loss of 6,000 tons of coal.
Transnet says the line is at a standstill and remains un-operational.
Officials are working with community leaders in the area and law enforcement as they investigate the matter.
The state utility says it remains extremely concerned by the threats.
