Tshwane council | Instability likely to continue: GOOD Party

GOOD secretary-general Brett Herron says instability in councils is likely to continue, until the ANC and the EFF iron out details of their political partnership.

JOHANNESBURG - The mayoral musical chairs currently being seen in Gauteng is not indicative of the will of the people, but rather power-grabbing by political parties according to the GOOD party.

Its secretary general Brett Herron says instability in councils is likely to continue, until the ANC and the EFF iron out details of their political partnership.

"I think we need to be concerned about the musical chairs that we're seeing in these big cities, like the city of Johannesburg and Tshwane, where a very small party that probably received two or three thousand votes, that has only got one seat is now, hold the executive mayor position in the capital city and this is also, you know, it's part of a pattern we saw started in Johannesburg where there seem to be placeholder mayors until the ANC and EFF can resolve their differences with regards to the future of governing Ekurhuleni," Herron said.

"So the instability that we've seen over the last year is likely to continue and this is not really a reflection on the incumbent, I don't know him, but it is a reflection on the power grab and the methods that are being used to change these governments without really reference to principles, value, delivery, but rather opportunity to grab seats and executive seats."
