Tshwane flood damage made worse by failing infrastructure

PRETORIA - The Gauteng government says the provincial disaster management team is on hand to assist municipalities.

Many areas remain hard hit as a result of the heavy rainfall in parts of Gauteng.

Meanwhile, the Tshwane Emergency Management Services Unit says it has activated its disaster operating centre to assist displaced residents.

The capital city says it’s trying hard to ensure residents are not affected.

But due to drainage systems that have collapsed, city management has to come up with new ways to clear the floods.

To add insult to injury some parts of Tshwane are still experiencing power outages due to a substation explosion.

The rain has also caused delays to the teams working to restore power.
