Despite the passing of the unofficial June 30 deadline for migrants to leave the country, demonstrations are expected to continue as tensions remain high.

Police have been kept on their toes, especially with reports of looting taking place in communities, particularly in Nkandla Informal Settlement in the Buffalo City Metro.

In that area, residents claim they have now been left stranded as several shops, which they found to be convenient for them, have allegedly been looted.

Despite reports of isolated incidents during the 30 June protest, the government said demonstrations were largely peaceful.
