SEBOKENG - It’s called Lalaza, a concoction made of used cooking oil from fast-food outlets mixed with other substances that’s finding its way into school meals.
Gauteng Education officials are concerned after reports that pupils in Sebokeng have fallen ill after consuming it.
Packets of the concoction alongside knives, vapes and other dangerous items were confiscated during raids at several schools in the area.
School violence numbers in Gauteng paint a grim picture.
Since 2023, at least 17 pupils have been stabbed at Gauteng schools.
Six of them were killed.
The Gauteng Education said its school raids are exposing serious safety and discipline concerns.
And with 245 schools identified as high risk, authorities said the crackdowns will continue weekly.
