The annual Uyinene Mrwetyana anti-GBVF march has entered its second phase.

Cape Town takes centre stage in the fight against gender-based violence.

Noma Mrwetyana said South Africa needs a multidisciplinary approach to mitigating the scourge of gender-based violence and femicide.

“As a foundation, we focus on three pillars. We focus on three pillars. Pillar number one, which is part of today, is prevention and raising awareness about gender-based violence.

“But specifically today, if I may go back there, we feel that we have been saying awareness, awareness, awareness, but the theme of today is moving from awareness to action. And we believe that we cannot defeat this battle alone. We need a multidisciplinary approach to mitigating the scourge of gender-based violence and femicide.

“We are also working with schools and young people because we feel that we need to educate young people about gender-based violence and femicide. Her theme specifically focuses on the boy child, which is something that the foundation is also doing,” she said.
