WELKOM, FS - Violent protests have shut down Fort Hare University.
The unrest flared over plans to appoint an interim Student Representative Council (SRC) while changes to the student governance constitution are underway.
Students are also demanding Vice-Chancellor Sakhela Buhlungu step down, accusing him of poor leadership and mismanagement.
All students have been ordered to leave campus by 5pm this afternoon.
University of Fort Hare Convocation President, Andile Mini says while the students have long been vocal about their dissatisfaction of governance, the condemn the damage to infrastructure.
