DURBAN - The South African Police Service's (SAPS) crucial crime intelligence division is facing a crisis.
But the arrest of its head Lieutenant General, Dumisani Khumalo, and six high-ranking officers for fraud and corruption last week, is only the beginning.
The charges stem from an Office of the Inspector General of Intelligence's probe.

- allegations of procurement irregularities pertaining to the acquisition of five properties, - allegations of the irregular appointment of a Brigadier, without meeting the minimum requirements of the post, and - the validity of the security clearance of a Major-General at the Crime Intelligence division. |
The report's findings and recommendations was submitted to Police Minister, Senzo Mchunu on the second of May.
Forensics for Justice – headed by Certified Fraud Examiner, Paul O’Sullivan, is demanding the country's top cop act against his senior corruption-accused officers.
O' Sullivan is threatening legal action if the officers are not suspended while the criminal case proceeds.
