JOHANNESBURG - One truck owner says he will have to let go of some workers after being dealt a heavy blow by the attacks on trucks.

The CEO of Li-Coal, Bongani Philips says he is grappling with the setback after his month-old R2.7-million truck was torched while traveling between Ermerlo to Piet Retief.

He said, "It pains me as the owner of the business that we have had to be subjected to this as Africans or a black South African who is employing 20 South Africans and you can multiply that by 10 and you can assume how many people you are employing as a business."

"We don't know why this has taken place because we do not employ any foreigners. We are employing 20 South Africans who are feeding their families."

Over the past three days, 16 trucks have been torched in KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, and Limpopo.
