Water outages spark fury in Sandton

SANDTON - Residents, healthcare facilities and businesses in Sandton, Johannesburg, are at breaking point as water outages continue to plague the area.

Residents across five wards say they’ve had enough.

Hospitals are also feeling the pressure and have been forced to bring in private water tankers at an enormous cost to keep patients safe. Councillors in the area are at their wits' end.

Businesses say the dry taps are also causing economic losses.

Johannesburg Water concedes there’s merit to the complaints and says it's working with the City to stabilise supply.

Ageing infrastructure and limited funding are at the heart of the crisis.

But after months of dry taps, residents say words are no longer enough, and are now calling for answers at a public meeting.
