CAPE TOWN - GOOD party secretary-general, Brett Herron, has laid criminal charges against two Western Cape MECs for allegedly tabling a false budget.
Herron claims Mireille Wenger and David Maynier knowingly underfunded education posts by R3.8-billion in the 2024 budget.
This was despite the two MECs being warned months earlier that the shortfall would force the education department to cut teaching posts.

Herron says the false budget was a politically motivated cover-up to project an image of sound finances ahead of the 2024 elections.
The complaint cites possible fraud and financial misconduct under the Public Finance Management Act.
Herron says this could mark South Africa’s first-ever case of a fake government budget being tabled.
Herron discussed this with eNCA.
