KATLEHONG - Disgruntled residents in Katlehong took to the streets on Monday demanding urgent action against gender-based violence.
The South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) led march comes as two more bodies were found over the weekend, bringing the total number of women who were killed and dumped in recent weeks to 11.
Residents in the area say women are being killed and abused with little action from authorities.

Among those is SANCO regional coordinator Nokthula Mkhwanazi, who said the community has reached its breaking point and is demanding concrete action to protect women and children.
“We cannot remain silent while women continue to lose their lives through violence. We call upon the name of Katlehong Police Station to treat these cases with the urgency and seriousness they deserve," she said.
Jenniffer Mankupane from SANCO women's desk said they are demanding concrete action to protect women and children.
"We are saying, enough is enough this must come to end. We are calling upon the President of South Africa he must do something. He must not preach what He is not doing, as women we can't live in fear."
A resident in the area, Mxolisi Ginya, called for stronger policing and tougher consequences for perpetrators of these heinous crimes.
“If ever we can try to strengthen that one, we will be able to fight this thing,” he said.
With fear deepening across communities, so too is the pressure on police to provide answers.
Katlehong police station authorities have acknowledged the residents' calls and promised to prioritise their concerns.
