'We don't know what happened' - security expert on Nathi Mthethwa's death

JOHANNESBURG - France said its investigation is complete and has ruled Mthethwa's death a suicide.

But South African officials have said they have not received a final report.

Security strategist and former Interpol ambassador Andy Mashaile insists these questions cannot be ignored.

“The last part speaks to South Africa saying we don't know what happened. If you say you have not received the final outcome, a simple analysis says we don't know what happened. You haven't told us what actually transpired and the last question that one answers from that line of thought that you and I are driving now.

“The last part is that we are still waiting for you to tell us what happened. I have a sound understanding of other countries when a high-ranking member of government dies in another country.

“We have seen the FBI joining forces with local police either in India or all over the world to help in allaying the fears of the people and of our government. Okay, what if the death is not a suicide? How will we then be able to argue it, given the fact that we were not part and parcel of the investigation?" Mashaile said.
