JOHANNESBURG - Nigerian singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has called on US President Donald Trump to pay attention to concerns ahead of the 15 August Osun State governorship election.
The call comes amid reports of violence and tensions ahead of the poll.
In a social media post on Tuesday, the singer raised concerns about possible violence, intimidation and disruption of the democratic process.

A CALL FOR ATTENTION TO PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP
President Donald Trump, I am calling your attention to the situation in Osun State, Nigeria, as we approach the election.

The post garnered more than five million views and sparked mixed reactions on social media.
One user accused Davido of having ulterior motives and questioned why he had appealed to Trump.
“You’re calling on Donald Trump because it’s about to affect your family, but when it has been affecting the whole Nigerians, who did you call? You don’t really care; you’re just scared that power may slip out of your family’s hands in Osun State. Tufiakwa,” the user said.

Another user, Kabza, said Nigeria should be responsible for protecting voters and its democracy.
“Davido, this is exactly the mentality Africa needs to outgrow. Nigeria is a sovereign country, not a US protectorate. If there are threats to the Osun election, demand action from INEC, the courts, security agencies and the Nigerian government, not Donald Trump.
“International observers are one thing; asking a foreign president to intervene in Nigeria’s internal democratic process is another. Nigeria must be capable of protecting Nigerian voters and Nigerian democracy itself,” the user said.
Others questioned why Davido appealed to Trump instead of Nigerian President Bola Tinubu
I don't think this guy is a Nigerian nor knows anything about Nigeria. Just speaking nonsense here. https://t.co/FAV4BmRXNs
