JOHANNESBURG - Transnet is cracking down on rogue employees and dodgy contractors.
A Special Investigating Unit probe exposed financial misconduct, kickback schemes, bribery, theft of company assets, collusion, and the submission of false information, resulting in 45 employees being fired and seven companies blacklisted.

The State-Owned Entity (SOE) said it is strengthening controls to prevent future corruption and is working on recovering embezzled funds.
According to the SOE earlier this year, there was a suspension of nine employees implicated in alleged collusion with suppliers.
"Six of these employees have now left Transnet’s employment because of disciplinary action instituted against them. Disciplinary proceedings against the other employees are still in progress," the SOE said.
