We will not violate, kill or loot- Organisers ahead of 30 June demonstration

JOHANNESBURG - Organisers of the 30 June demonstrations said their objective is to demand government's enforcement of immigration laws.

The comments come as authorities intensify preparations for the demonstrations, with extensive planning taking place at national, provincial and local levels.

Faith Mabusela of Put South Africa First said the demonstrations will be peaceful, saying their action is about accountability and respect for the law, not violence or disruption.

"We are not calling for violence, but for government and the business sector to respect the law. It is that simple. No one will be violated, no one will be killed on the 30th of June, and no looting, I repeat, no one will be violated, no one will be killed on the 30th of June, and no looting will take place in our name," Mabusela said.

Government said efforts to maintain order could cost up to R600-million.

In the meantime, the private security industry has pledged its support to the state ahead of the demonstration against undocumented migrants.

This is according to Acting National Police Commissioner Puleng Dimpane as the SAPS prepares for the planned demonstration on 30 June.

Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia on the other hand has maintained that police are ready to keep the country safe on 30 June and that there will be no room for criminal activity.
