JOHANNESBURG - Health officials are racing to contain a rapidly escalating Ebola outbreak in eastern DRC.
The death toll is closing in on 250, with over a thousand suspected cases.
Doctors Without Borders and the World Health Organization warn that the spread is unprecedented.
They said they are struggling to keep up with it as they fast run out of resources.
WHO chief Tedros Ghebreyesus is in the epicentre of Bunia.
He is overseeing containment efforts, urging communities to help curb transmission of the deadly disease.
With a vaccine over nine months away, he is warning communities about how easily it can spread through direct contact with bodily fluids.
"The president and the prime minister are also engaged. I had already met the prime minister yesterday, and they have already allocated $20 million.
"And they are mobilizing, and under their leadership, with the support of all partners, we believe that we can stop it.
But of course, there could be some analysis, you know, that we need to check and see if there are challenges, and address them."
