Witness describes fatal attack on German tourist

WHITE RIVER - A witness to the shooting of a German tourist described the brazenness of the attackers.

The tourist was shot near the Numbi gate in what appears to be a botched hijacking.

The police's top brass led by Minister Bheki Cele is visiting the area on Wednesday.

"I was sitting by the gate with security and workers of the schools. We heard a gunshot just outside the gate," the eyewitness said.

"When we opened the gate, we saw a Hyundai car, reversing. Inside the car, there was a lady screaming."

The witness said he called police to the scene.

"Unfortunately it took roughly 45 minutes to an hour for them to arrive," he said.

"But the first person to arrive was a station commander. Then the rest came.”
