JOHANNESBURG - Young Men Movement founder Kabelo Chabalala has said that inconsistent leadership can undermine the fight against gender-based violence.
He stressed the need for sustained plans and commitments that outlast political changes, urging a year-round focus on GBV.
“I think the biggest challenge in this country is also how we are structuring approaches. A lot of these issues continue to manifest in the different parts of our country also because of the problematic discontinuation of who is in leadership from a political perspective.
“We are heading towards 16 days of activism. We're going to see some talks and a little bit of promises around action, and then we're going to move on into December. We forget that women are being killed every day in this country.
“It's not a Kempton Park problem. It's not a September, October problem. It's an everyday problem that requires us to work around it and around the clock every day without having to pause even for a moment.”
