The Electoral Commission recently raised the cost of fielding presidential candidates from about R17,000 to a shocking R340,000 rand.

Some election candidates in Zimbabwe say they can't afford the excessive nomination fees to contest in next year's polls. This has prompted them to take the country's electoral commission to court.

Some veteran politicians say the process for running for public office should be fair.

The governing Zanu PF says unpopular candidates are just abusing the country's electoral system.

Preparations for Zimbabwe's 2023 polls are already underway and main contest is expected between current President Emmerson Mnangagwa and main opposition leader Nelson Chamisa.
