Zimbabwean nationals flock to Cape Town Consulate

CAPE TOWN - Thousands of foreign nationals are stranded in Cape Town, either outside consulates or at a Home Affairs Repatriation Centre in Epping.

Aid organisation Gift of the Givers has been assisting Zimbabweans hoping to leave South Africa before 30 June.

Gift of the Givers’ Ali Sablay said they have seen a spike in the number of people going to the Zimbabwean Consulate.

“When our teams were busy with humanitarian relief, we saw that the numbers went from close to a thousand people, close to three thousand people, coming to seek shelter there, coming to get their documents to order to be repatriated back home,” Sablay said.
