MDANTSANE - Family and friends at Sisa Dukashe Stadium for Zolani Tete's funeral have remembered the two-division boxing world champion and described him as a man of the people.
Affectionately known as Last Born, Tete was gunned down outside his home earlier this month.
His special provincial funeral has been attended by fans, the boxing fraternity and senior government officials.
His manager, Mlandeli Tengimfene, said Tete feared death, despite making a career out of one of the world's most brutal sports.
"Zolani feared death, I must say, but he didn't fear getting into the ring. He feared his opponents. In his record, he's got about 19 knockouts. Of those knockouts, 11 of them are first-round knockouts. So you're talking about a fearless man. However, he feared God. He feared death."
The motive for the killing is still unknown.
