Zuma continues attempt to remove downer from case

KWAZULU-NATAL - Former President Jacob Zuma intends to call Prosecutor Advocate Billy Downer as a witness in his arms deal corruption trial.

This was revealed by Zuma’s lawyers, who argued in the Pietermaritzburg High Court for leave to appeal a ruling that rejected their request to have Downer removed from the case.

Zuma’s legal team informed the court that they do not consider Downer indispensable, arguing that he was involved in the investigation.

They reasoned that this, along with their plans to have him testify, are just a few justifications for his removal from the criminal proceedings.

Judgment has been reserved.

eNCA’s Nkosikhona Malinga-Mnisi was in court and filed this report.
