Operation Prosper nets over 190 illegal miners in Westonaria

JOHANNESBURG - Authorities are tightening the grip on illegal mining in Gauteng.

In a major crackdown at Losberg Kloof Mine in Westonaria, police, the South African National Defence Force, and Sibanye Protection Services stormed the site, targeting illegal operations.

More than 190 suspects have been arrested in a sweeping operation.

Over 107 Basotho, 56 Mozambicans and four Zimbabweans are among those nabbed. 

Authorities say it's part of their ongoing war on illegal mining and organised crime.
