Illegal migration | People will get hurt, no one will take responsibility - Zibi

JOHANNESBURG - People fueling the migration issue won't take responsibility when people get hurt.

These are stern words from Rise Mzansi leader Songezo Zibi. He says protest leaders are exploiting the migration crisis in South Africa for personal gain.

He warns that many people may die before 30 June, however, those in power will evade responsibility.

"We have leaders right now who want to profit of the anger," says Zibi.

"Immigration is always the number one issue, when you reason with people in terms of the steps that you need to put in place in order to have lasting intervention," he says, "it always comes down to the choice of conversations leaders want to have."

This follows threats from anti-illegal immigration groups who have given undocumented migrants until the end of the month to leave South Africa.

Zibi says deportation is not always effective, as many people simply return within days.

He says it is also proof of government’s failure to control the immigration crisis.

He blames South Africa’s greylisting on the lack of proper border control and security.
