JOHANNESBURG - The Aids funding gap is yet to be filled.
Earlier this year the United States withdrew its support of HIV/Aids programmes in South Africa that were being funded under the banner of PEPFAR of the US President’s Emergency Plan for Aids relief.
The hole that was left was to the tune of R8 billion.
The Health Minister, Aaron Motsoaledi, says that besides R1 billion donated by the Global Fund for ARVs the funding trough has been dry.
He’s confirmed the closure of 12 specialised clinics since the funding cut and the loss of more than 8000 jobs
The Health Minister discussed this with eNCA.
